How Busy Moms in Baltimore & Annapolis Can Make New Mom Friends (and Build a Support System You’ll Love)

Two mom friends in elegant dresses hugging on a beach at sunset, with trees and water in the background during a family beach photo shoot..

A recent session I did of two mom friends with all their children.

Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also feel lonely — especially when your little ones are babies or toddlers and your whole world revolves around naps, snacks, and endless laundry. If you’ve found yourself wishing for more mom friends who really get it, you’re not alone. In fact, in Baltimore and Annapolis, countless moms are searching for connection.

As a maternity and family photographer in the Baltimore/Annapolis area, I see how important friendships are to moms — whether it’s sharing playdates, swapping advice, or just having someone who understands when the baby won’t sleep. The good news? There are plenty of places right here in Maryland where you can meet other moms and start building your village.

1. Join Local Mom Groups Online

• Facebook Groups: Search for Baltimore Moms, Annapolis Moms, Anne Arundel County Moms, and neighborhood-specific groups like Canton Parents or Severna Park Moms.

• Many groups post weekly “introduce yourself” or “playdate” threads — the perfect place to say hello and connect.

• Pro tip: If you comment back-and-forth with another mom, follow up with a quick DM suggesting coffee or a park meetup.

Some of my favorite Facebook Mom groups:

2. Visit Parks & Playgrounds (Mom Hotspots!)

Baltimore and Annapolis are full of family-friendly parks where moms gather daily:

• Patterson Park (Baltimore) – stroller walks, playgrounds, and the duck pond.

• Lake Montebello (Baltimore) – great for stroller-friendly walking loops.

• Federal Hill Park (Baltimore) – perfect for toddlers to run around while moms chat.

• Quiet Waters Park (Annapolis) – walking trails, playgrounds, and open fields.

• Kinder Farm Park (Millersville) – a favorite for moms with toddlers, thanks to the farm animals and big playgrounds.

• Broadneck Park (Annapolis) – tons of play space, often filled with local families.

Strike up a conversation with another mom — “How old is your little one?” is the easiest icebreaker.

I have even done photo shoots at some of these locations!  Check out the photos below:

3. Attend Library Story Times

Local libraries are amazing for free activities:

• Enoch Pratt Free Library (Baltimore locations) – baby bounce and toddler story times.

• Annapolis Library (Anne Arundel County Public Library system) – highly popular baby and toddler programs.

• Severna Park Library – weekly story hours for kids under 3.

You’ll find moms with kids the same age, and since it’s a recurring activity, you’ll naturally see the same faces week after week.

4. Try Mom & Baby Classes

Structured activities are a great way to bond with both your child and new friends:

• My Gym (Annapolis & Columbia) – toddler tumbling and mommy-and-me classes.

• Goldfish Swim School (Annapolis & Owings Mills) – baby swim lessons where parents sit poolside together.

• Music Together Chesapeake (Annapolis & Severna Park) – interactive music classes for parents and little ones.

• YogaWorks (Baltimore) – baby & me yoga classes for moms who want to recharge while meeting other parents.

5. Grab Coffee at Kid-Friendly Cafés

Sometimes all you need is caffeine and conversation. Try:

• Ceremony Coffee Roasters (Annapolis) – large, welcoming space, often filled with parents.

• Spoons (Federal Hill, Baltimore) – family-friendly brunch and coffee spot.

• R. House (Remington, Baltimore) – open food hall where moms with kids often meet.

• Curiosity Coffee Bar (Harbor Point, Baltimore) – cozy, stroller-friendly atmosphere.

6. Explore Local Parenting Events & Meetups

• Check Meetup.com for groups like Baltimore Moms Meetup or Annapolis New Moms.

• Local YMCAs (like the Y in Arnold or Catonsville) often host parent-child classes where moms naturally mingle.

• Many churches in Baltimore and Anne Arundel County host “MOPS” (Mothers of Preschoolers) groups.

7. Say Yes to Playdates

It can feel awkward to make the first move, but inviting another mom for a stroller walk, park meetup, or even a backyard playdate goes a long way. Start small — just one mom and one child — and friendships will grow over time.

8. Capture the Journey

These early years — and the friendships you’re forming alongside them — go by so quickly. I can’t tell you how many moms I’ve photographed who tell me, “I met my best friend at a library story time,” or, “We bonded during stroller walks at Quiet Waters Park.”

As a Baltimore and Annapolis maternity and family photographer, I love capturing these real, fleeting chapters of motherhood: the little hands holding yours, the laughter on the playground, the bond between you and your child. The photos become not just memories of your family, but of the village you built along the way.
